Howie Rose is Excited for Start of Mets Season

Howie Rose says excitement is already building for Opening Day.

“It gets more and more acute with every day.  The night before you have trouble sleeping because it’s what you’ve prepared for, it’s what you enjoy, it’s a job but it’s an avocation and when you strip all of that away it’s just baseball and most of us loved since we were kids,” Rose said.

Rose told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning” that he’s been going to Opening Days for the Mets since 1966 and hasn’t missed many since.  When the season begins on March 29th, it will be his 23rd Opening Day as a play-by-play broadcaster for the team.

One of the keys to the offense is outfielder Michael Conforto, who will begin the season on the disabled list.  He’s expected to return around May 1st, but Rose said it could be even sooner if he proves that his shoulder is healthy.

“I’m not sure it’s worth pushing him to try and get him back a week or so early, but I’m not ruling that out either.  It could happen,” Rose said.
