Violent Criminal Scalds Corrections Officer

An inmate who is being held in one of the most secure housing units at Rikers Island until his murder and assault charges are sorted out has committed his second attack on a Corrections Officer in less than a year.

According to Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen,  J’Von Johnson doused a  CO with boiling water and then punched the victim in the face several times breaking the man’s nose.

Husamudeen didn’t hide his anger and contempt for the Mayors Correction Commission or Public advocate Letitia James, releasing a statement that read:  “We have come to expect zero action from the Mayor and his correction commission over the past 4 years. So we are calling on New York City Public Advocate Tish James and the entire New York City Council to act now to protect us. The Mayor is willing to have blood of correction officers on his hands, are you?”

4 corrections officers have been assaulted at Rikers Island since the second week of February.

Deputy Commissioner of Public Information for the DOC, Peter Thorne, said; “Outrageous attacks like this on an officer just doing his job helping keep the rest of us safe, are exactly why this inmate was immediately placed in more restrictive custody.

J’Von Johnson will face addition charges after his attack on the Corrections Officer.

The unnamed CO was transported to New York Cornell Hospital, where he was treated.
