The suspect in a school shooting that left 17 dead and dozens more injured is due in court in Florida today. Nikolas Cruz appeared in court today concerning the sealing and unsealing of documents against him as they take the first steps in prosecuting the 19-year-old.
The family who took in the shooter told Good Morning America they didn't know they were living with a "monster" and that Cruz had always been polite and "seemed normal." According to James Snead, his family was unaware of the alleged shooter's disturbing online social media presence.
A law enforcement source told CNN that Cruz had obtained at least 10 rifles over the last year.
Cruz has been charged with killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The school will remain closed through Wednesday officials say. They hope to reopen the doors of the school by the end of this week, however, it's unclear whether students will return. Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky says the school district has also offered to tear the building where the shooting happened down.
