Senator Chuck Schumer is calling on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to send their best team to New York to help combat the flu.
“Everyone knows New York is in the middle of a massive flu epidemic. Everyone you talk to - someone you work with, a friend, a relative, member of your family - is coming down with the flu,” Schumer said.
The Senator said halfway through the flu season, 5,200 people in New York have been hospitalized. During last year’s entire flu season, 3,500 New Yorkers went to the hospital.
In the past week alone, the number of flu cases increased by more than 50 percent.
"With record setting highs this season, it's critical that New York has the resources and knowledge it needs to track the flu's path, gather intelligence, and figure out the most effective way to fight this virus,” Schumer said.
