An unidentified Newark, New Jersey man was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after he allegedly attacked two police officers with a hatchet and his pit-bull.
Witnesses say the incident unfolded during a road rage confrontation at a busy Newark intersection.
Reports claim that when police arrived on the scene they found the man sitting in his car with the engine running. As they approached the vehicle the man opened the door and flashed the cops a glimpse of his hatchet and ordered his pit-bull to attack.
The officers rushed the disturbed man and were able to pull him from the car and secure the dog in the car.
The man managed to bite both officers before he was restrained.
Charges are pending.
