NYC Suing Opioid Manufacturers

Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City is filing a lawsuit against several manufacturers and distributors of prescription opioids.

“More New Yorkers have died from opioid overdoses than car crashes and homicides combined in recent years. Big Pharma helped to fuel this epidemic by deceptively peddling these dangerous drugs and hooking millions of Americans in exchange for profit,” de Blasio said.

More than 1,000 people died in New York City in 2016 because of a drug overdose that involved an opioid.  In 2017, more New Yorkers died from opioid overdoses than from car accidents and murders combined.

“It’s time for Big Pharma to pay for what they have done.  It’s time for them to be held accountable,” de Blasio said.
