Dr. Venkatesh Sasthakonar was arrested for allegedly trying to strangle a nurse with an elastic cord this past Monday.
The incident took place at Nassau University Medical Center after Sasthakonar allegedly ran up behind the nurse and said "I should kill you for this" as he placed the cord around the woman's neck.
Dr. Sasthakonar, who specializes in bariatric surgery, has been charged with strangulation and assault.
Sasthakonar has worked at Nassau University Medical Center for a decade.
