Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered security to be increased at New York City’s bridges, tunnels and transit hubs.
“Given the increase in the volume in the traffic and given the recent events, we believe it's prudent to increase security at the major crossings and the major transportation hubs,” Cuomo said.
On Halloween, eight people were killed when a terrorist slammed his rented pickup truck into a crowd of people near the West Side Highway. Last week, there was an attempted terror attack at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
“We don't have any information that has caused us to increase security. This is just out of an abundance of caution. There is nothing wrong,” Cuomo said.
The extra security measures will include surveillance teams and random vehicle checks.
