Vigil Held to Remember Brooklyn Fire Victim

Hundreds turned out in Brooklyn on Monday night to remember a mother and her three children who were killed in a fire.

People filled the streets outside a synagogue in East Flatbush, paying tribute to Aliza Azan and her 11, 7, and 3-year-old children.  They died when a fire tore through their three-story home on East 14th Street in Sheepshead Bay early Monday morning.

A father escaped the fire and was able to help four other children to safety.

“He tried to get back in to save the rest of his family, the ones that he didn’t already save.  We believe he acted very courageously,” FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.

Officials said a menorah sparked the fire.
