NYC Leaders Criticize House Gun Measure

New York City leaders are blasting a measure approved by House Republicans that would allow gun owners carry concealed weapons across state lines.

“Prosecutors are against this bill.  Police officers are against this bill.  Every major police organization in the country is opposed to this legislation,” Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance said.

Vance said the legislation would allow people to buy multiple handguns in the state where they live and then bring them into Times Square for the New Year’s Eve celebration.

“There’s going to be a million people here in about three weeks and that would be perfectly legal, even if it was against New York State law,” Vance said.

The measure has the support of the National Rifle Association.

“That’s pure insanity.  Only the NRA could propose something so vile,” Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted.

The measure now heads to the Senate for a vote.
