Juan Estella was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after he was found wedged in the air-duct system at the Renaissance Hotel on West 35th Street.
According to witnesses, a shirtless Mr. Estella walked into the hotel lobby this morning at 5:00 am and started a ruckus. When hotel employees attempted to assist Mr. Estella he crawled into an air duct and set one of his shoes on fire.
The police were called to help extricate Mr. Estella from the air-duct. After the disturbed man was safely in custody he was charged with criminal trespassing and attempted arson.
The police report failed to indicate if there were any injuries due to the shoe fire.
