A husband and wife team put their heads together and figured out a way to steal over $225,000 dollars in food stamps and benefits from needy people.
Omar and Nyima Jaata were arrested after the Inspector General's office concluded an investigation that discovered Omar Jaata, who works for the Human Resources Administration, had allegedly been overriding administrative safeguards in order to funnel benefits to his wife.
State Inspector General, Catherine Leahy Scott said of the scam, "The theft of welfare benefits met for families in need is egregious at any level, but with the husband's position as a public employee entrusted with administering these funds makes the case particularly abhorrent.
