Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been benched.
Coach Ben McAdoo announced on Tuesday that Geno Smith will start on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. It’s the first time since 2004 that Manning won’t start, breaking a streak that reached 210 games.
“A hard day to handle this, but I’ll hang in there and figure it out,” Manning said.
The move has outraged many fans who believe he deserved better. Manning won two Super Bowl MVP’s and may be a future Hall of Famer.
“I don’t have to make sense of it. This is what it is and, like I said, you gotta deal with it,” Manning said.
McAdoo said Smith gives the Giants the best chance to win on Sunday. He said Smith is ready and has done everything the team has asked him to do.
“We’re confident that we can put a plan together to put Geno in a position to be successful and win the game,” McAdoo said.
