Christmas Tree Lighting Brings Extra Security

Security will be extremely tight near Rockefeller Center on Wednesday, as the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony takes place.

Extra officers will be on hand and several streets will be closed in the area.  Many streets will also be closed in the area beginning at 3 p.m.

Street closures will also continue every afternoon and evening through New Year’s.  West 49th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and West 50th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues will be in place every weekday from 5 p.m. until midnight and from 1 p.m. to midnight on weekends.

Those attending the lighting will have to pass through a screening area.  Large bags, coolers and umbrellas will be banned.

Gwen Stefani, Seal, Harry Connick Jr. and Train will all perform at the ceremony.
