New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is lashing out at his critics, after a mistrial was declared in his corruption case.
“To those who were digging my political grave so that they could jump into my seat, I know who you are and I won’t you,” Menendez said
Menendez was accused of trading political favors in exchange for lavish gifts and trips. He maintained his innocence throughout the trial.
“I’ve made my share of mistakes, but my mistakes were never a crime,” Menendez said.
The Senator thanked the jury, saying they “saw through the government’s false claims.” He said the jurors used their “Jersey common sense” to reject the arguments of prosecutors.
The way this case started was wrong. The way it was investigated was wrong. The way it was prosecuted was wrong and the way it was tried was wrong as well,” Menendez said.
