New York lawmakers gathered at City Hall on Sunday to speak out against the Republican tax plan, saying it unfairly hurts New York and New Jersey.
“Seven hundred thousand plus New Yorkers would experience double taxation,” Mayor Bill de Blasio complained.
The Republican plan would eliminate local and state tax deductions. The lawmakers say that would hurt people in New York and New Jersey. At the same time, they say it will help the wealthy.
“It is a choice in favor of millionaires, billionaires, CEO’s and the most wealthy Americans and it will harm every one of us,” Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said.
Senator Charles Schumer said the fate of the bill rests on the vote of lawmakers from New York and New Jersey. He called on Republicans from the two states to oppose it.
