A 39-year-old man has been arrested on manslaughter charges after allegedly attacking an Uber driver with a hockey stick.
The victim, 68-year-old Randolph Tolk, was driving on Saturday night when he stopped at a crosswalk at West 20th Street and 11th Avenues. Kohji Kosugi was apparently crossing the street when an argument broke out between the two men.
Police said Tolk got out of his car and Kosugi hit him with a hockey stick.
“He was hit in the head. He fell to the ground. The guy put his foot on his chest,” Fernando Mateo with the New York Federation of Tax Drivers said.
Tolk apparently got back into his car and tried to drive away but crashed. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“It’s very sad to see a driver at that age working that late at night and being assaulted by a young man,” Mateo said.
