UES Building Evacuated After Cracks Found

Cracks found in an apartment building on the Upper East Side have forced tenants to evacuate.

The FDNY said a total but temporary vacate order has been issued for 300 East 96th Street.  An exterior crack was found on a load-bearing wall.

It’s unclear how long the cracks have been there, but fire officials are worried about a possible partial collapse.  Barricades have been set up near the building to ensure people remain a safe distance from it.

No injuries have been reported.  It's unclear when residents will be allowed to return.
