Following the deadly terror attack this week in New York City, new concrete barriers are being installed along the bike path near the West Side Highway.
The blocks are being installed at 57 locations between 59th Street and Lower Manhattan. Work on the installation began on Thursday morning.
Eight people were killed and a dozen more were injured when a pickup truck slammed into a crowd of people in a bike path. The barriers could better protect the path from future incidents, but some runners and bikers complain the concrete blocks take up too much room.
