FLUSHING, N.Y., November 2, 2017 – The New York Mets announced today the return of their MetsGiving initiative, which encompasses a series of programs in November and December that focuses on helping the community during the holiday season. The events, including food and coat drives, a turkey giveaway, and a kids holiday party, will feature Mets players, front-office staff, corporate partners and fans all working together to give back and help those underserved in the community.
Thursday, November 2 – Food Drive presented by Hain Celestial benefiting the River Fund NY
Mets Team Store at Citi Field 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring canned and packaged goods (no glass containers) and enjoy a special appearance by Mr. Met. Fans donating at least 10 non-perishable items will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Mets home game in April or May 2018 and enjoy a discount at the Mets Team Store. Thursday, November 16 – Fourth Annual Turkey Giveaway
With transportation provided by Uber, Mets employees will distribute more than 500 turkeys to families in need across all five boroughs. The Mets will work with the New York Common Pantry to hand out turkeys in Manhattan, Agape Food Rescue in Brooklyn, Cayuga Center in the Bronx, The River Fund NY in Queens and Project Hospitality in Staten Island. Each family will also receive ticket vouchers redeemable to select games during the 2018 season.
The Mets also continue the tradition of providing complete Thanksgiving meals to 25 families in Corona and Elmhurst, two of the neighborhoods closest to Citi Field. Mets players and employees will donate the food and personally deliver the packages to the families’ homes in conjunction with NYPD Community Affairs. Players assisting with the deliveries will be announced at a later date.
Thursday, December 7 – Kids’ Holiday Party
Foxwoods Club at Citi Field 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
More than 100 elementary school students from local schools will play games, enjoy lunch and perform holiday songs at the annual event. The children will receive a special visit from Santa and his elves who will be delivering gifts. Mets players participating in the event will be announced at a later date.
Wednesday, December 13 – Mets Annual Coat Drive
Mets Team Store at Citi Field 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Mets in partnership with UnitedHealthcare will be collecting new and gently-used coats for New York Cares to distribute to those in need this winter. Fans donating one coat or more will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Mets home game in April 2018 and enjoy a day-of discount at the Mets Team Store.
