A New York State police K-9 was accidentally shot and killed in the line of duty Monday morning. Will, the K-9 officer was part of a raid on a house in Greig, New York.
When the troopers entered the home a pit bull charged and attacked the police dog.
The dog's human partner Officer Shaun Smith pulled his service revolver and shot the pit bull through its leg.
Unfortunately, the bullet ricocheted and hit the police dog in the stomach.The dog was rushed to a local vet where it was pronounced dead.
Will, the police dog was named after Trooper William Doyle, an officer that was killed by two escaped mental patients in 1967.
