Mayor Bill de Blasio says he’s not attending any Yankee playoff games because he’s a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
“I’m not going to fake anything. I have my own allegiance. I have my own history. I’m going to be myself. They’ll have their games and if they win in the end we will honor them,” de Blasio said.
The Yankees can advance to the World Series with a win over the Houston Astros on Friday night.
“It’s real simple - they win the World Series - we’re going to throw them a great parade. We’re going to roll out the red carpet,” de Blasio said.
Nicole Malliotakis, the Republican candidate for mayor, responded on Twitter.
"I'm proud to root for the Yankees," she said.
