Mayor's Statute Crew Meets In Secret

While the Nation-wide public spectacle of protests at historic statues and landmarks plays out daily on television screens everywhere, Mayor Bill de Blasio wants his statue commission to meet in private.

Mayor de Blasio said the commission is studying the city's collection of public art and statues looking for symbols of hate, and the work of the commission deals with subject matter that is complex and sensitive.

The mayor said there will be a public component on the decisions made by the commission and New Yorkers will have a voice in the process of choosing works that propel the city universally.
