Suffolk County Gets Federal Funds To Fight Gangs

The Project Safe Neighborhoods policy of the Bush administration that was recently revived by President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has given Long Island law enforcement agencies $500,000 thousand dollars in Federal funds to help combat gang violence.

The federal money will be used to help shut down MS-13 and other violent gangs that plague areas of Central Islip, North Amityville, Brentwood, and Wyandanch.

MS 13 is allegedly responsible for 27 murders in Suffolk County since 2013.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods policy will also focus on sending more gun-related crimes to federal court where convictions bring longer jail sentences.
