Construction Worker Shot to Death on West Side

A 37-year-old construction foreman has been shot to death on Manhattan’s West Side and the alleged gunman has taken his own life.

Police responded to the scene on West 59th Street near 12th Avenue on Thursday morning.  They described this as a case of workplace violence.  The 44-year-old gunman had been fired two days ago and allegedly returned to target the foreman who laid him off.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene on the 37th floor of the building under construction.  The suspect was later found dead in the building.

Police said workers described the gunman as "a bit of a hot head."  They're investigating how the gunman got into the building.

Police said there are no other suspects.
