Cuomo: Now is the Time for Gun Debate

Governor Andrew Cuomo is accusing the White House of being scared of the NRA, saying we should be having a conversation about gun control in the country.

"I think it is ludicrous for the White House to say, ‘Now is not the time to talk about it.’ Now is precisely the time to talk about it,” Cuomo said.

The mass shooting in Las Vegas killed 58 people and left more than 500 others injured.  The White House and Republican leaders accused Democrats of trying to politicize a tragedy.

“They're afraid to act because they're afraid of three letters. You know what the three letters are? N-R-A. That's what this is about. It's political fear,” Cuomo said.

The governor said he signed tougher gun control measures into law in New York after the shooting in Newtown and paid a political price for it.  But he said it was the right thing to do because it saved lives.  Cuomo called on elected leaders in Washington to do the same.

“You know, all these federal officials, they put out press releases and warm wishes. Warm wishes are nice. Press releases are nice. You know what's better? Action. Do something,” Cuomo said
