Mets broadcaster Howie Rose says Manager Terry Collins did a “marvelous job” leading the team for seven seasons.
A day after Collins announced that he was stepping down, Rose told WOR’s “Len Berman and Todd Schnitt in the Morning” that sometimes a change is needed and the team needs to hear a new voice.
Rose said a possible candidate for the opening is former third base coach Chip Hale.
“I know that he wants to manage again. He had a shot for a couple years with Arizona. Not that I’m saying he goes to the head of the list, but I think he’s going to be a viable candidate,” Rose said.
He also speculated that former Mets players Joe McEwing and Alex Cora could also be candidates for the manager’s job.
“I would think they’d want someone along those lines who’s not too far away from having played the game, who embraces the combination of pure baseball acumen with analytics and sabermetrics,” Rose said.
Collins is expected to remain with the Mets organization.
