Yonkers Police Officer Injured in Shooting

A police officer in Yonkers has been shot in the jaw and injured after a shooting on Monday night.

The officer and her partner were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Marshall Road and Ridge Drive.  When she approached the car, one of the two men inside opened fire and she was shot in the jaw.

“It could’ve been much worse.  Thank God the officer right now did not sustain a life-threatening injury.  She was struck, she’s in serious but stable condition, but thank God that it looks like she’s going to be okay,” Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said.

The officers returned fire, striking and injuring one of the suspects.  Both of the men were taken into custody.

The injured officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and is listed in serious but stable condition.  The suspect is also hospitalized.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.
