Governor Cuomo Traveling to Puerto Rico

Governor Andrew Cuomo is headed to Puerto Rico to help the island recover after it was hit by Hurricane Maria.

“New York is home to more Puerto Ricans than any other state in the country, and our hearts break for our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters as they begin to rebuild after the unimaginable devastation of Hurricane Maria,” Governor Cuomo said in a statement.

Cuomo is traveling after an official request from Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello.  Joining Cuomo are key emergency response officials, including engineers, planners, technical supervisors and translators.

“Puerto Rico has endured an horrific ordeal and we are lucky to have a friend like Governor Cuomo and New York State who we share a close bond and deep history with,” Rossello said.

The plane is being donated by JetBlue.  Governor Cuomo also ordered the New York Army National Guard to be on standby to help in the recovery effort.
