A new poll by Marist College and NBC 4 New York indicates that Mayor Bill de Blasio may have a clear path to re-election in November.
De Blasio receives support from 65 percent of likely voters, while Republican Nicole Malliotakis gets the vote of 18 percent. Independent candidate Bo Dietl wins the support from 8 percent of voters.
“A lot of words can be used to characterize this matchup currently — overwhelming, substantial, landslide, lopsided,” Marist pollster Lee Miringoff said in a statement.
Of those who plan to vote for de Blasio, 61 percent said they strongly support him. That’s compared with 45 percent of those who support Malliotakis.
One of the biggest problems for Malliotakis is that voters don’t know who she is. According to the poll, 66 percent have never heard of her or don’t know enough to have an opinion.
