Body Camera Footage of Police Shooting Released

The NYPD has released video from body cameras showing a deadly police involved shooting in the Bronx.

Officers were called to the home of Miguel Richards, 31, on September 6 where they found him in a bedroom.  He was holding a knife and a toy gun that cops thought was real.

Cops repeatedly told Richards to “put that knife down” and ordered him to raise his arms, which he refused to do.  During the standoff, Richards was holding one of his hands behind his back.

“I don’t want to shoot you.  This is not gonna end well for you if you don’t put that down,” one of the officers said.

One of the cops used his Taser on Richards, while shots were also fired.  Richards was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This was the first time a police involved shooting was caught on body cameras in New York City.
