Autumn N. Matacchiera, the Burlington County woman who threw a 5-year-old child in front of a train last January, has pleaded not guilty of attempted murder by reason of insanity.
Ms. Matacchiera's attorney claims her client was attempting to perform a "human sacrifice" when she snatched a stranger's 5-year-old daughter and threw her on the light rail tracks.
A Burlington County Police officer witnessed the crime and was able to retrieve the child from the tracks before any serious injuries occurred.
Ms. Matacchiera admitted she threw the child on to the tracks in an attempt to win the love of an estranged relative.
The attempted murder trial is scheduled to begin the first week of November.
