LISTEN: Mets snap losing streak, beat Marlins 8-1

A game that started out as a pitchers duel ended up as a 8-1 victory for the New York Mets over the Miami Marlins Saturday night at Citi Field.

Rafael Montero started the game for the Mets and had turned in the best performance of his short major league career. Montero pitched six innings allowing just one run and striking out five to earn just his second win of the season.

Vance Worley pitched well into the sixth inning for Miami, however in the sixth the Mets would end up scoring seven runs. The Marlins made three errors in the inning to help the Mets. Wilmer Flores and Kevin Plawecki each homered in the inning as well.

Dom Smith hit his second career home run in the eighth, his first ever at Citi Field. New York's bullpen pitched three scoreless innings to close the game out.

The Mets and Marlins will face off in the rubber game of this three game series Sunday afternoon at 1:10. Coverage on WOR begins at 12:05 with 'Mets On Deck'
