Major Construction Begins at Moynihan Train Hall

Officials are marking the beginning of major construction at the James A. Farley Building, which is being transformed into the Moynihan Train Hall.

When finished in 2020, the train hall will provide Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak passengers with a new 255,000 square foot concourse.  Floor space is increasing by more than 50 percent, while there will also be 700,000 square feet of new commercial, retail and dining space.

"For decades, passengers were promised a world-class train hall worthy of New York - today, we are delivering on that promise and turning that dream into a reality," Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.

The $1.6 billion project will create over 12,000 construction jobs and 2,500 permanent jobs.
