Cuomo Wants Con Edison’s Help to Fix Subway

Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on Con Edison to take immediate actions to improve the reliability of power in the subway system.

He said power-related issues led to more than 32,000 subway delays and disruptions in the past year.

"To repair the MTA, we must also focus on the services that the MTA relies upon.  The number one necessity is a reliable power supply. That must be provided by Con Edison,” Governor Cuomo said in a statement.

He said problems in the system have been fixed with band aids.  Cuomo said now a fundamental upgrade is needed.

The MTA has unveiled a nearly $840 million plan to fix the subways.  Mayor Bill de Blasio also proposed a millionaire’s tax with money going to repairs and half-price MetroCards for low-income New Yorkers.
