Mayor Bill de Blasio is reacting publicly for the first time since dozens of police officers turned their back on him during a funeral for NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia.
“It’s very sad. We were all supposed to be there to respect the family in their hour of pain. That’s the only thing people should have been thinking about, not making some political statement,” Mayor de Blasio said.
Some officers are upset with de Blasio for traveling to Germany for a protest of the G-20 Summit just days after Familia was shot and killed. Because of his trip, he missed a vigil for the officer.
Familia was murdered on July 5th in the Bronx. The gunman, Alexander Bonds, was killed by responding officers.
