A wake will be held on Monday for Miosotis Familia, the New York City police officer killed in the line of duty.
The 48-year-old officer was sitting inside a vehicle at East 183rd Street and Morris Avenue in the Bronx early on the morning on July 5th, when a gunman shot her in the head. The 12-year veteran and mother of three was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
A wake is being held at World Changers Church from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday and then from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral is set for Tuesday with thousands expected to be in attendance.
The gunman, Alexander Bonds, was killed by responding officers. He had sought psychiatric treatment at St. Barnabas Hospital just days before the shooting. Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered an investigation into whether all proper procedures and safeguards were taken.
