Cuomo Orders Review of Hospital After Shooting

Governor Andrew Cuomo is ordering an investigation into St. Barnabas Hospital, following the shooting death of NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia.

Her killer, Alexander Bonds, was taken by his girlfriend to the hospital on July 1st for psychiatric treatment.  He was released later that day.

"Reports that the individual responsible for the death of Officer Miosotis Familia sought a psychiatric exam, and was quickly released from hospital care only days before this horrific attack raise many questions,” Governor Cuomo said in a statement.

He’s ordered the state Department of Health and Office of Mental Health to launch an immediate review of St. Barnabas Hospital’s actions and policies in admitting, treating and discharging Bonds.  Cuomo wants to know if state laws, regulations and guidelines were followed.

“Under tragic circumstances such as these, it is critical to ensure all proper procedures and safeguards were taken,” Cuomo said.

Officer Familia was killed early Wednesday morning in the Bronx.  She was a 12-year veteran of the NYPD and was a mother of three.
