Vigil Held for Murdered NYPD Officer

A vigil was held in the Bronx on Wednesday night to remember NYPD officer Miosotis Familia, who was killed in an unprovoked attack.

Familia, 48, was sitting in a mobile command unit at 183rd Street and Morris Avenue early Wednesday morning when Alexander Bonds shot her in the head.  Bonds was killed about a block away by responding officers.

People gathered at the 46th Precinct where Familia worked to remember her life.  She was the mother of a 20-year-old daughter and 12-year-old twins.  Familia had been with the NYPD for 12 years.

Bonds was a career criminal who was on parole for a robbery case in Syracuse.  He was also arrested in 2001 for assaulting police with brass knuckles.  On Facebook, Bonds also posted anti-police videos.
