72-year-old Robert Fischer lost a portion of his leg in a wood chipper accident Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Fischer's son was able to pull his father from the machine after the lower part of his leg was ripped off by the spinning blades.
Suffolk County police notified OSHA and impounded the machine to run a safety check.
It is not known if Mr. Fischer was using his foot to push limbs into the device or if his pant leg got caught causing the terrible accident.
