Kevin Williams was arrested for mugging two women after his mother recognized him on video surveillance tapes released by the police.
The 34-year-old crook allegedly robbed his victims by sneaking up behind them and placing a cloth over their faces while they waited for trains on a SOHO subway platform.
Police records indicate that Mr. Williams covered the victim's faces, snatched their money, and threatened to cut them with a knife if they failed to turn over their valuables.
Williams's mother told a friend that she thought the suspect was her son and the friend contacted the authorities.
Kevin Williams is being held on a $100,000 dollar bond.
