Granderson's 300th HR Sparks Mets 9-4 Win Over Cubs

The Mets rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Cubs 9-4 tonight at Citi Field. Curtis Granderson hit his 300th HR, a solo shot in the top of the eighth which broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Mets a 5-4 lead. Lucas Duda would follow suit later in the inning with a 3-run shot to bust the game open for the Mets.

Matt Harvey had a rough outing as the first two batters he faced, Anthony Rizzo and Ian Happ, hit home runs to give the Cubs an instant 2-0 lead. Harvey lasted just four innings allowing four runs on four hits while striking out five. He was pinch hit for by fellow pitcher Steven Matz in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded. Matz came through with an RBI on an infield single.

Juan Lagares would then drive in a run on a sac fly and tie the game with an RBI triple. The Mets bullpen was outstanding Paul Sewald, Fernando Salas, Jerry Blevins, and Addison Reed kept the Cubs scoreless after Harvey's exit.

The Mets will begin a four game series with the first place nationals on Thursday evening. Coverage on WOR begins at 6:05 pm with Pete McCarthy & 'Mets on Deck'.
