Rough Golf Course Landing For Single-Engine Plane

Groundskeepers at the Bellport Country Club in Long Island watched in amazement as a Cessna 172 suffering engine problems made an emergency landing just short of the 12th green yesterday.

The unidentified pilot radioed the MacArthur Airport to report engine failure at 6:15 am. The tower advised him to land the single-engine plane at the Bayport Aerodrome.

The pilot didn't believe he could make the landing strip so he decided to set down on the open spaces at the Bellport Country Club.

The aircraft clipped a few trees during the landing but the pilot was not injured and refused medical treatment.
