Public Education Costs Rise By Over $150 Million Dollars

A 1.57% increase in the NYC school's payroll doesn't sound like an unreasonable bump in costs until you see the entire amount spent on teachers, principals, custodians, and administrators.

Last year the payroll for the folks who teach and care for the children enrolled in NYC schools totaled 10.18 BILLION dollars. 

That's up by a staggering $159 million dollars from the year before.

Officials from the City's Education Department claim that a large amount of the budget increase was caused by the prekindergarten expansion and the addition of 4,364 workers.

The Chancellor of NYC Schools Carmen Farina earns the highest wage in the public school system, she pulls down $227,737 per year.
