Weiner Set to Plead Guilty

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner is set to plead guilty on Friday in connection with alleged sexual messages he sent to a 15-year-old girl from North Carolina.

The New York Times reports that Weiner turned himself into the FBI and will appear in federal court in Lower Manhattan at 11 a.m.

Weiner is expected to plead guilty to one count of transferring obscene material to a minor.  That carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years, but it’s also possible that Weiner could escape prison time.

It’s also likely that Weiner will have to register as a sex offender.

Weiner was forced to resign from Congress because of racy pictures he sent to women.  A similar scandal also derailed his bid for mayor in 2013.
