New Ferry Service Begins in NYC

A brand new ferry service began in New York City on Monday morning, taking people between the Rockaways and Wall Street.

The trip takes about one hour and will include a stop in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.  The trip will cost riders $2.75, which is the same as a subway ride.

“I often talked about the tale of two cities.  Well, here’s an example of the tale of two cities that for too long was tolerated.  The Rockaways weren’t as connected as they deserved to be,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The mayor took a ceremonial ride on Sunday before service officially launched on Monday.

Additional ferry routes are expected in the summer.
