Cuomo Announces Gang Crackdown

Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying to tackle the gang problem on Long Island.

“We will not rest until MS-13 is put out of business,” Cuomo said.

He announced on Wednesday that 25 state troopers will be sent to Suffolk County to help in the fight against MS-13.  Cuomo said the troopers would provide intelligence, expertise and state of the art equipment that can be used against the gang.

Earlier this month, four people were found dead in a park in Central Islip.  Authorities believe the MS-13 gang may be responsible.

“MS-13 are thugs.  That’s what they are.  They are thugs.  They are thugs who prey on young people,” Cuomo said.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is expected to travel to Central Islip on Friday as part of the federal government’s own crackdown on gangs.  President Trump has blamed the increase in gangs on the Obama administration's immigration policies.
