Biologists, veterinarians, and members of the NYPD were unsuccessful in their attempts at saving a young Minke whale after it stranded itself off of Orchard Beach this Sunday.
After careful examination by the Atlantic Conservation Society, it was determined that the whale had developed chronic pneumonia and had to be euthanized.
Officials plan on running additional tests on the whale to determine what brought on the severe pneumonia which left the mammal too weak to survive.
