One officer is dead and another injured after a shooting Thursday on the Champs-Elysées.
The street has been closed and authorities are telling people to avoid the area, CNN reports.
Footage from the scene showed the area filled with security officers at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
French police tweeted that an operation was underway in the area and asked people to "follow the instruction of the police."
Reports from French media outlets say shots rang out at around 9 p.m. local time. Two hours prior to the shooting, a nearby street, Rue de Rivoli, was placed under lockdown.
France's presidential election is in just a few days.
