MTA Fare Hikes Take Effect

Commuters are paying more to take the subway and buses, after MTA fare hikes went into effect on Sunday.

The $2.75 base fare remained intact, but the pay-per-ride bonus declined from 11 percent to 5 percent.  The cost of the 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard increased by one dollar to $32, while the price of the 30-day unlimited card rose from $116.50 to $121.

Fares on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North also jumped.  The MTA said most customers using weekly and monthly passes will see an increase of 3.75 percent or less.  Tolls also increased at the MTA bridges and tunnels.
